Advertising and marketing have always been an expense on my balance sheet.

I would expect to pay more money on advertising & marketing than I would receive from it.

It was a waiting game! I wouldn't expect to actually make any money until months 2, 3, or 4 from the members I signed up.

Because we were selling a subscription-based membership.

And they wouldn't start paying us until months 2, 3, 4, etc.

Yes, building up your recurring revenue is so important to build a sustainable gym.

But what we realized was it made it hard to run effective, profitable advertising & marketing.

Because no money was coming in month 1 to pay our advertising & marketing bill!

This is why we made the switch to do two things.

1) Sell a front-end program that you can charge high ticket for.

This allowed us to not only collect money right when we signed on a new client but pay for our marketing & profit from it.

When we analyze our marketing to see if it is profitable we only look at cash collected compared to what we are spending.

And we cut the campaign if our return is not 50% or higher.

2) Sell the people from the front-end program into a long-term program.

This will allow you to kill two birds with one stone.
